Is it hot in here, or is it just the jalapeño I just sliced up? It’s getting cold outside, so it’s time to heat it up with some of my favorite spicy flatbread recipes! That means chili peppers, peppers, paprika, and spice. Peppers warm us up, or seem to anyways, from the inside out, and since peppers are so plentiful this time of year, let’s make some delicious flatbreads with them. Eating chilis is good for us: capsaicin, the chemical in chilis, has been thought to regulate insulin levels and boost circulation. Just don’t rub your eyes after handling them!

Shake some hot or mild paprika on flatbread to make your own healthy chips, then make a batch of muhumarra,  a Middle Eastern dip made with red peppers, walnuts, and pomegranate. We can’t stop making this fast appetizer using mostly pantry ingredients. Or take a page from Baltimore’s book and try these bloody Mary snake bites with snake oil hot sauce, tabasco, and crab meat. That Friday night beer will thank you!

Mushrooms are also looking great at the store, so these spicy portabello mushroom burgers might be a good idea. Marinate them during the day, and grill at night for a vegetarian weekend dinner that challenges any meat eater’s menu.

This weekend, host a flatbread party, gathering some tasty spicy ingredients so guests can make their own pizzas. Try the Spanish tapas inspired flatbread , the jalapeño topped Mexican pizza,  or a  grilled steak flatbread with bright and zesty chimichurri. Make sure there’s plenty of cerveza, rioja, and tequila!

For you sweet and spicy lovers, we dare you to try our very favorite spicy banana chocolate Foldit sandwich. Chili powder, chocolate, banana? Yeah! Makes a sinfully good breakfast or snack. And as always, flatbread has your back with lower carbs and whole grains. So spice it up this week, Flatouters!
